Michela Depetris

Turin – Serie Inversa program, created for the analysis of the creative scene in Piedmont, will present the second event of this season on May 14, 2015 at 6 p.m. at the Diogene Tram. The artist Michela Depetris (Cuneo, 1984), will discuss her research with other artists and the general public.

The research of Michela Depetris is focused on the link between intimacy, viewpoints, and identity. Starting from the field of individual experience, both private and in relation to others, the artist has chosen the emotional dimension as the cornerstone of her research and method of work required. Sensitivity in the observation of places and and comparison with others are two sides of the same coin, the unexplored fields where a perception of reality can be attempted. In fact, all her works start from an idea of action, of performance understood as a generative process of the activation of reflection on the doing/making itself, in search of possible influences often also established through collaborations with third parties. An online presentation of hers confirms this, when we read: Inspecting reality very closely, like a private investigator, like a policeman, like a dog / Perhaps nothing makes sense, but everything can produce meaning / Every time you look at something, it changes / Each proposal is the pretext for at least one relation.

With its annual program Serie Inversa, the Diogene Project pursues an initiative of scouting the young creative scene in Piedmont, with the intention of learning about those artists who are working on or have recently begun research in the visual arts and providing them with the opportunity to come into contact also with an audience outside of their usual working environment. This activity has been developed by taking on the traits of a formative path, mentoring, and support, during which – alongside the artist and his/her work – other artists and the general public may interact constructively and critically in the discussion, thus having an impact on many of the aspects that concern the sphere of production, the theoretical formation, and the positioning of artistic practice in society at this historic moment. Serie Inversa, like all the Diogene Project’s activities, has been made possible thanks to the contributions from the Compagnia di San Paolo banking corporation and in collaboration with the GTT (Turin Transport Group) and the City of Turin.
